GENERAL NOTICE:DECLARATION OF TUESDAY 27 DECEMBER 2011 AS AN ADDITIONAL PUBLIC HOLIDAY
|
|
Tuesday 27 December 2011 has been declared as an additional public holiday in terms of Section 2A of the Public Holidays Act, by way of Government Notice 7L of 2011 in Government Gazette No.34881, dated 20-12-2011 .
This is because Christmas (25-12-2011) falls on a Sunday which would normally result in the following Monday (26-12-2011) being a public holiday. Since this is already a public holiday (Day of Goodwill), an additional public holiday has been declared.
The provisions of clause 11, “Payment for Public Holidays” of the Main Agreement apply.
An additional complication could be that, due to the late announcement, there is confusion as to whether an additional day should be added to the Annual Shutdown period (clause 16 of the Main Agreement). If necessary, employers and employees can, by mutual agreement, merely add an additional day`s leave to the employees` annual leave entitlement. This item will also be posted on our website: www.meibc.co.za
Please be guided accordingly.
