Download PAIA Manual (PDF)The Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA) is South African legislation that gives effect to the constitutional right of access to any information held by the state and any information that is held by another person that is required for the exercise or protection of any rights.
PAIA promotes transparency, accountability and effective governance by empowering and educating everyone to understand their rights and how to access information from public and private bodies.
The Motor Engineering Industry Bargaining Council holds various types of information that may be subject to access requests, including:
- Collective agreements and wage determinations
- Council policies and procedures
- Annual reports and financial statements
- Meeting minutes and resolutions
- Arbitration awards and dispute resolution records
- Provident fund information
- Training and development programs
- Industry statistics and research
Step 1: Complete the Request Form
All requests for access to information must be made using the prescribed PAIA request form. This form is available in our PAIA Manual or can be requested from our offices.
Step 2: Submit Your Request
Submit your completed request form to our Information Officer along with the required fees (if applicable).
Step 3: Processing
We will acknowledge receipt of your request within 14 days and provide you with a response within 30 days of receiving your request.

If you are not satisfied with the outcome of your PAIA request, you have the following remedies available:
- Internal Appeal: Lodge an appeal with our designated appeal authority within 60 days of the decision
- Court Application: Apply to a competent court for appropriate relief within 30 days of the decision
- Information Regulator: Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (South Africa)
